One of the most driving factors in the music ministry is showing the love of God to all people. When faced with the daily aggravations of life, it’s sometime a bit hard to stay focused on that task.
Think about something for a moment. Human beings are imperfect. Period. Therefore we must come to the realization that anything we create of our own accord will inevitably be flawed in some way or another. It reminds me a lot of my grandma’s old typewriter with the bent “e” key. Because the machine was flawed there was no way possible I could type “the perfect letter” because every time a word contained the letter “e”, the bent key made it appear as it the poor vowel was running away from a consonant with bad breath!
1 Corinthians 12:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part (imperfect) shall be done away.
What is the secret to perfection? Accurate reproduction of that which is perfect. Juice lovers stand up! We have known for years that 100% juice tastes much better than the plethora of “juice flavored” knock-offs that have flooded our local markets! Anyone else grind their teeth after picking up the newest Apple Berry Mango Delight only to read the back and find out it “actually contains .0002% real juice”??? Yuck!
***Kool aide fans, please sit back down. We all agree “red flavor” is in a class of its own! ***
The more “actual juice” your juice contains, the better it is. Instant coffee will do in a pinch, but it can’t touch those fresh roasted beans! And what is it with this “lite ice-cream”? I don’t want my dairy coming from any anorexic cows, thank you very much!!
This morning I smiled because God moved yet again on a situation in my life, and I thought “wow….what a perfect love God has for me…if only I could learn to love like that”! I began to dwell on the perplexing irony that most people that so many people have difficulty either showing or receiving TRUE love. Oh sure, we love us some fried chicken, and we love us some American Idol,etc….but when it comes to moving past the superficial in our daily relationships it actually can be quite hard. Many single folk have been hurt one too many times and they build walls around them as a way of self preservation to shield them from receiving something that could be potentially hurtful. The sad thing about this is that while “hurtful love” can’t get in, neither can “healing love”. Even those of us who are married may eventually come to find out many of these same walls were never truly and completely broken down in either us or our spouse. Sadly, these walls not only keep one from receiving love, it makes it difficult to give love. (How many of you have ever been tempted to look at the back of your significant other’s head expecting to find a hidden label stating “contains .0002% actual love”)?
Thanks be to God we have an answer! “God is love” is not just a slogan for your local Sunday school banners, God really IS love. Just as much as ice IS water, H2O IS oxygen, and Kool Aide is liquid sugar! So then if God is perfect, then Love must be perfect… (Stay with me)….then the more we emulate the characteristics of GOD and His perfection the more we are able to exhibit Love in its perfection!!
John 1:1 states “In the beginning was The Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God”
Just as Rob is Robert and Robert is also Maxwell and Maxwell is also Rob Max, (and if you’re my mom, Rob Max is also “Robby”), God is Love And love is God and God is The Word, and The Word is Jesus and Jesus is Love, etc. Why do you think there’s so much Truth and Life in the Word?? Because the Word really IS Jesus, and Jesus said “I (really) AM the Way the Truth and the Life”.
So without trying to sound too much like the finance man I am let me present to you this formula. The higher the percentage is of Jesus in us, the closer we are to the perfection of God – which is the simultaneously bringing us closer to the perfection of LOVE.
Eureka!!! If you consider the presented “Formula to Perfect Love” common scriptures contain new revelations…
1 John 4:7,8 Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God and everyone that loves is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love.

5Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.
As my grandma would say, that’s “purdy deep”. The next time God amazes YOU with His perfect love, know that we have the liberty to be more like him, just by being more like him!
