Stand Out!!
If you are a worship leader seeking to learn more about pushing your ministry to new heights by the seasoned examples of those already active in the field….look no more. You may be tempted to, but please dont duck and don’t cover…instead stop, drop (what you’re doing), and RUN to buy this DVD “yesterday” if possible…it’s that AMAZING.
FLASHBAAAAAACKKKKKKKKK
The year is 1998 and I had just attended what I thought to be the BEST GOSPEL EXPERIENCE EVER….it was Kirk Franklin and the Nu Nation Tour and he had sold out the Fleet center in Boston, (impressive indeed). The awe and wonder emanating from the audience was not solely based on the captivating choreography, the amazing special guests, the elaborate set, or even the David Copperfield style teleporting opening, (he appeared in puff of smoke, ya’ll…really).
What most folk took away from the concert was that this “Stomp Fella” was actually powerful at….ministering. From preaching to teaching to praying, the presence of God was welcomed in that place to the point that we didn’t care if he performed “Stomp” or not. (But yeah, we were glad he did).
Flash Forwaaaarrrrd…..
A few months later I was in my living room and I had to remind myself to breathe as I eagerly popped the in concert VHS, (DVD was still a pretty scarce commodity). I had my grandma standing close by with a church fan and some water because I knew she had many years of experience as a baptist usher, and I was just expecting to fall out sure ’nuff slain at some point in this concert video!!!
Um, the concert was over 3 1/2 hours so why was my tape only something like 90 minutes?
Easy answer….they edited out all the MINISTERING!!!!
Hmm….Let’s just say I had to send grandma home early….she was a gospel fan, but there was about 22% too much “STOMP” in the video for her tastes.
MAN!! I was so shocked I even called the record company!!
“THIS WAS VIDEOTAPED IN LIKE 50 STATES, CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET A LESS EDITED COPY???”
(**True story, some intern almost put me through to the one and only Vicki Mack Lataillade for me to ask her where I could get an unedited tape…..but someone nosey full time employee stopped THAT from happening)
Don’t get me wrong…Kirk’s brilliance inspired and amazed me for years to come, but the lesson learned here was that I shouldn’t expect the worship part of the concert experience to be captured in the following DVD.
UNTIL NOW!!!! Ladies And Gentlemen the Stand Out Live DVD is not what you’re used to.
Sure, the well known gospel artist Tonex’s previous “Out the Box” DVD added some effects and interviews causing it to be hailed as “revolutionary”, but this Stand Out Live DVD is the closest thing you can get to being at the actual concert without a ticket stub!
IN ONE WORD…this is the Stand Out Live EXPERIENCE.
Yes Tye Danced…
and it’s in the DVD for you to experience.
Yes, Tye Ministered in the Word…
and it’s in the DVD for you to experience.
Yes, the presence of God was felt that night…
and it’s in the DVD for you to experience.
Yes, a G.A. member accidentally knocked Tye’s sister Demaris in the head during a frantic praise dance…
and it’s in the DVD (commentary) for you to experience!
At just over 4 and a half HOURS of material, this DVD has no lack of meaningful content.
The Stand Out Live DVD is a fantastically produced gospel experience that encompasses Worship, Praise, Liturgical Dance, Contemporary Dance , (both choreographed and freestyle), but utilizing everything from the best in sound and stage design to mimes. Yes. Praising, demonstrative, dancing gospel mimes. And they…were…surprisingly….fantastic!!!
Every action and moment seemed to be designed to bring the songs to a level where all audiences could effortlessly grasp the messages Tye was trying to convey in his music. (If a frantic mime reaching across the stage trying to escape the grasp of his “evil” mime brethren doesn’t illustrate the Prodigal Son’s musical message: “I got to get outta here…” Then nothing will.)
Tye’s brilliance and creativity shines like a light throughout this DVD project. Combine that raw energy and focused talent with the amazing abilities of his band, SOUNDCHECK, (led by none other than his MD and bass player extraordinaire, Thaddeus Tribbett), and the seemingly limitless and spontaneous energy of Greater Anointing, (where did Aaron come up with those moves…), and you end up with not just a shining production but a Star Trek inspired tractor beam of worship and praise that compels all that dare gaze to be drawn in.
But wait…there’s more….
MEET THE TRIBBETTS
MEET SOUNDCHECK
GOOD IN THE HOOD OFFICIAL VIDEO
AND SPECIAL GUESTS GALORE….

Bless The Lord
AND WHAT WOULD VA BEACH BE WITHOUT A BEACH PARTY?
AND NOW A WORD FROM…..
My favorite extra feature has got to be the commentary….Whether it’s G.A. members answering fan questions or Tye explaining what he was thinking throughout the evening and why. (Want to know why All Hail The King isn’t on this edition…tune in to the alternate DVD audio track and find out). This was actually much deeper than “I felt like jumping here…I felt like running there”! Tye actually gives deep insight into such things as how different cultures view worship. Soundcheck elaborates on playing for God exclusively vs. gigging for the world. DEEP STUFF. Everything I could begin to THINK of to ask in an interview was addressed at one point or another.
REMEMBER, ONLY JESUS IS PERFECT…
If there’s one thing that could have been a tiny bit greater on the Stand Out Live DVD, I would have to quote (ok…paraphrase) Gospel legend John P. Kee…
” *Whenever I have new material, I like to wait a while before performing or touring…otherwise the people will sort of stand there and soak it all in. If we release the CD first and give them time to familiarize themselves with the material I find that they participate much more during the concerts”. (*paraphrased from a memorable interview).
You know how you taste new food for the first time? It’s like hmm…..let me digest this…tastes good…o.k., I like this! Well, that how the Audience was for most of this DVD. Oh, they were hype! They were supportive. They were rocking and dancing right along, (undoubtedly impressive for someone’s debut of new material), however I can’t help but wonder how much more hype they would be today now that they KNOW how bomb diggety Tye’s new joints are? I wonder…
CONCLUSION……
Like Victory Live before it, once again Tye Tribbett and G.A. deliver a superb, quality DVD experience. I’m being modest…THIS THING SETS THE BAR FOR GOSPEL DVD’ S to Come!! It’s packed to the brim with something for everyone, casual listeners, hardcore fans, and worshipers of all denominations and backgrounds. The message is universal, the worship and praise is undeniable and the praise is incontestable.
What are you still reading this for? Don’t delay your own blessing. As Tye would say “BUY it, don’t burn it….”
NOW!
